Having launched themselves onto the world at large with their stunning debut Recreation and the blogging frenzy that greeted their inspired autotuned take on Animal Collective’s My Girls, Brighton’s :Kinema: return with the Circles EP, another sublime slice of 21st century blue-eyed soul.

Kicking things off with the title track, Circles, :Kinema:’s Dominic Ashton paints an all too familiar picture of just how relationships truly are the triumph of hope over experience, all backed by one of the most irresistably catchy synth-pop tunes you’ll hear this year. Next up we turn up the heat and take things into the boudoir with Lets Get To It, a tune which could have given Barry White a run for his money, dripping with soul you’ll be under no mistake that :Kinema: indeed have game.

On remix duties we have the band’s fellow traveller in smooth, Grovesnor and labelmate Line. Taking time out from his current duties drumming for Hot Chip, Grovesnor turns in a stunning Yacht Rock inspired remix of Lets Get To It that perfectly captures the spirit of those seaside sounds from the long seventies, whilst Line’s mix of Circles, all throbbing bass and crystal sharp lazer fired melodies, is the perfect soundtrack for robots looking to get their grind on to.

Released on limited edition 2 track 7” yellow vinyl and as a 4 track digital EP (available June 2nd), Circles heralds a bright new dawn for pop music our fledgling decade.

biography

Thrown together across an epic European road trip Dom Ashton, Andy Nelson and Ross Flight discovered their shared love for music, laptops and famous actresses. :Kinema: have developed their sound over the last 18 months, combining elements of Yacht Rock, Soul and Contemporary Pop and Dance music into something sounding like Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson being re-imagined by a 21st Century Indie band.
